The Second Season of The Witcher Upends the Book with Major Shifts

Witcher season 2

The Witcher Season 2 Changes Everything From The Book

Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ series is a commercial success, but has it taken too many liberties with the source material? Season 2, released over the holidays, has received approval from most viewers of the first season and fans of the game ‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’. However, fans of the books were left with a bitter taste in their mouths.

Disregard for the Narrative

‘The Witcher’ season 2 should have followed the story of Ciri from where she is united with Geralt in the book ‘Blood of Elves’. However, the producers took some appalling liberties with the canon. Netflix missed a chance to interpret Sapkowski’s work verbatim while employing or omitting certain cinematic tricks to make it visually compatible, similar to how ‘The Lord of the Rings’ movies were made. Henry Cavill’s performance as Geralt was outstanding. He understands the character fully and endorses the game’s version of him. Unfortunately, he is an actor dedicated to a role in a franchise
